There are a number ways to do that and these ways can be permanent and temporary. The first set consists of lip plumpers which have been introduced by the cosmetic industry. These best lip plumper work by inducing collagen into the lips. Some use vitamins which will go into the lips and will cause the lips to go ahead in volume. Another set of lip plumpers merely act as exfoliator and will just increase the lip volume by bringing the new skin from underneath. This method will only yield temporary results which may last for a day and the minute you stop applying the lip plumper the effect will go away.

Now there are other products which have a longer duration of lip volume effect. These are products such as Restylane and Juvederm. Both of these products are Hyaluronic acid based and the way they work Hyaluronic acid is used to pump up the volume. Hyaluronic acid hydrates the skin and increases the volume. The effect of Restylane or Juvederm will last for a few months. The advice here is that while getting these injectable fillers make sure that you go to a very qualified surgeon or dermatologist. If the injection goes bad then chances are that you will have very badly shaped lips. There are pictures of patients with injections gone and believe me that these look awful and you will have tough time getting those in back in shape. It is better to be safe the first time itself.

Lip Implants and lip augmentation

Lip Implants is another way in which we can increase the lip volume. The lip implants are a bit challenging in the fact that these need to be surgically implanted and they are almost permanent. You will need a surgery to remove them. The best thing is to have the temporary dermal filler injections and increase the lip volume.

There can be done to improve the lip volume like using face lift surgery to lift the entire face including the lips. Most of the times when the face lift surgery is done this will be done in parallel to have a good overall effect.

Lips augmentation can be done using the Restylane or the Juvederm. These are temporary lip augmentations as the effect of the Restylane injections will wear off after about six months and the you will have to undergo another round of treatments to get the fuller lips.

The benefit of using the Restylane injections for the lip treatments is that it is hyaluronic acid based and is totally derived from the human body. This is better than the bovine collagen injections that are used because of the fact that bovine collagen can cause allergic reaction in a lot of people and hence it is not suggested by a lot of dermatologist

The Restylane also has benefit over other forms of lip augmentation as dermatologist can use very fine needles to inject the HA and can easily make sure that the lips are contoured or shaped accordingly. The other major method if lip augmentation is fat grafting though the success rate in that is not as high as the Restylane injections

The silicone based lip enhancement is not recommend as silicone has a lot of complications and it can be very tricky to handle.

Again before going in for the lip augmentation using the Restylane injections make sure that you talk to cosmetic surgeon regarding the expectation that you have.

After the lip injections are done there may be swelling and the dermatologist may advise you to use the ice packs to sooth the lips.

Some surgeons definitely use the mental nerve blocks to make sure that patient does not get pain or at least lessens the discomfort caused by lip augmentation. The entire procedure for lip enhancement with Restylane will last more than 30 minutes.

Though Juvederm helps in making sure that mild and severe wrinkles are filled and the face gets a rejuvenated look, it is also used a lot for lip augmentation. The reason being that it is very smooth and has very good consistency. This helps as you will want the lips to look natural and also you should be able to move the lips normally.

Better still there is generally very little risk of Juvederm going into permanent granulomas. The trick here is to be very subtle and inject small quantities of the dermal filler into the lips.

Juvederm Lips Swelling and pain

If there is pain in the lip area after the injection then use the ice pack or a numbing cream to alleviate the pain.

In general the swelling in the lips will remain fro 48 hours and then subside. The two days of welling is very normal and you should be ready for it even before you go in for the lip augmentation. Also there may be more swelling ion one part than the other, so do not get worried and let the 48 hours go by. The welling will automatically subside and you will also feel less of pain.

Lips bruising

There will be minor bruising of lips that will occur and that will be there for initial two three days. Bruising I must add is generally not there for most of the patients.

The other pain will occur when the cosmetic surgeon goes in for the nerve bloc so that he can safely inject Juvederm into the lips.
