People feel better in their skin when it is softer and smoother, and a pore mask helps achieve all these skin care goals. Masks commonly are composed of natural clay, usually kaolin and bentonite clays. The natural properties of the minerals in these natural earth materials tighten skin. A pore mask need not be used daily. Most users find that these masks need be applied only once every week or even at two week intervals.
Natural clay has the property to absorb skin impurities. This gives clay its value as a pore refining mask. Pores look smaller. With the oils and impurities removed, skin becomes healthier and there are fewer unsightly blemishes. The ability of clay to soak up impurities helps the body fight and recover from acne eruptions. Continued helps counteract the effect of oily skin. There are pore masks formulated to work by absorbing heat and becoming warmer on the skin, and formulas operate the opposite way; they cool down once applied. Each type is formulated to work successfully and the decision which to use comes down to which feels more comfortable and works best for the individual user.
Other ingredients can be combined with the clay to aid in helping acne. Examples include salicylic acid, or benzoyl peroxide, both with respected reputations for fighting acne. Masks usually also incorporate conditioning formulas to help skin stay moisturized since clay is going to be absorbing all oils and while removing the undesirable impurities. Valuable and effective additives to enhance the texture and moistness of skin include green tea, vitamin E and vitamin C, antioxidants to protect skin from environmental damage and calming components like the medicinal herb feverfew that will help with redness. Each user can select the product according to the features that fit their individual needs.
The other common pore products include the pore gels and the pore concealer. Better still read these tips to clear clogged pores. You can also read about the best pore creams in my earlier post on the same.
Before applying the mask, the face should be washed very thoroughly and be dry. Make sure there is no makeup or creams remaining on the skin. Dampen the face slightly with a little tepid water and evenly spread on a layer of mask material. Be careful not to get too close to the eyes. The amount of time it should remain on the face’s skin varies from product to product and their individual supplemental ingredients. Some should be left on 30 minutes, some a few minutes. Follow instructions carefully so the mask is not left on the skin insufficient or excessive periods of time. More time is not automatically better.

These steps are extremely important and must be followed with care. When the skin starts to feel tight, that signals the product is drying and doing its job. However, any pain, or sensations of burning or itching mean the mask should be removed immediately, as these are not normal reactions. If there are no unpleasant reactions to the mask, carefully time it so the pore refining mask is removed when it has been on the skin the proper length of time. Remove by wiping the area gently using a washcloth and warm water. Definitely do not pull at skin or pluck mask off, or yank on it to remove it. Once off and the facial skin is totally clean of any mask material, apply moisturizer or, if going outdoors, some moisturizing sun block. The frequency of application of a pore mask depends on what the individual skin type needs are. Very oily skin or skin exposed to lots of dirt and impurities may need it several times weekly; other skins may need treatments every one or two weeks. Excessive use of pore masks can dry out skin, causing its own set of problems.
