One cosmetic issue almost all deal with is those dark circles that give the bad eyes look so distressful to those trying to put on their best appearance. Lack of sleep, the natural thinning of the skin with age, increases in the natural melanin of the skin or puffiness due to allergies or being tired all can cause the dark coloration underneath the eyes. Many cosmetic products are available to lighten the area under the eye and reduce or eliminate this distracting skin appearance. If you have selected what you hope is the right under eye brightener your next concern is properly applying it in order to get the desired results.
Picking the best under eye brightener for your skin depends on your individual skin type. You should ensure that the color you select coordinates with your skin color. If your skin tends to be oily you want to avoid any under eye brightener that has lots of oils among the ingredients–you will shortly have a slip-n-slide under your eye. Pick a shade that matches your own skin tone–don’t select a lighter than usual color thinking that will lighten the dark area better. The color should blend with the rest of your natural skin tone.
The best way to apply brightener is using an under-eye concealer brush. A brush makes the application more uniform and accurate and simultaneously blends the product with the skin surrounding the under-eye area. Look for appropriate brushes at beauty stores such as Sephora, Ulta or at Sally’s Beauty Supply.
Do not apply under eye concealer first; it should be the last cosmetic touch to your face. You don’t want to risk getting darker cosmetic products such as mascara or liner on the area under the eye–then you will have to start over with the under eye brightener in order to get it looking uniform and natural–spot fixes will not succeed but will simply create spots.
Put just a tiny amount of the eye brightener you plan to apply on the hand (the back, not the palm). A little dab will do you–not lots as it can then drip off your hand and be wasted. Having it on the hand allows easy access so you are not going back and forth between the product container and your eye.
Now that you have selected the best under eye brightener, the right brush and applied all other make-up (except the foundation and face powder) you are ready for the final masterful touch. Start at the eye’s corner next to the upper nose. Proceed along the line under the eyelashes, covering any dark skin areas. Next, do the same for the area under the eyebrow to make the eyes look less sunken and brighter. This also accentuates the shaping of the brow. You want the area of application to create a letter "U" lying down on its side. Overdoing the application of brightener is worse than under-application, as too much will end up caking and if any wrinkles exist they will promptly get caked up with the brightener and look worse.
The foundation and powder can then blend the entire face’s tone to create a lovely, fresh face–no more raccoon eyes!
